A pattern is how something happens, develops, or is done. Everything in this world including human behavior thought processes, actions, etc is bound to be under a pattern. It varies from person to person, situation to situation. Every living being in this world has a pattern of eating, sleeping, walking, thinking, writing, laughing, etc., In psychology and cognitive neuroscience, pattern recognition describes a cognitive process that matches information from a stimulus with information retrieved from memory.
Pattern plays its role in the subconscious layer of the human mind. Filmmakers get into a pattern without their knowledge. Writers get into "Writer's Block" frequently because of a lack of awareness of their pattern. Directors write same scenes, shots and dialogues again and again. Music composer uses same kind of instruments, tune base, rhythms frequently. Irrespective of Genre, Directors / Script Writers use the same kind of plots, characters, story world, situations, and even dialogues across all their films. For a couple of times, the audience welcomes their new way of story approach. But, as time goes by these filmmakers will become perishable in the market. This is because the filmmaker thinks that he/she is creating a new story world every time but unconsciously delivering the same goods.
Recognizing a pattern is like looking through a telescope for the first time. As if with new eyes, you see things that you have never seen before. That same experience can happen when you see a pattern for the first time. Looking through their flaws, and patterns is an unbiased exercise. When you understand the pattern, you change your approach to a new level. As an entertainer, one shouldn't get into a pattern. In the initial days, the audience will welcome your approach.
