What's your Film Score?

Is it possible for us to give a score to a Film? Yes, Indeed. What gets measured, gets done. When you are an audience, you give a general rating to the film. But when you are a filmmaker, you tend to seek more ratings for your movies. If we are asked to rate our own creation, we tend to give more ratings to it. But it has to be done in a neutral way through a film analyst. You can do the analysis by yourself by following the below-given chart. I have created it and used it in all my film analysis and script auditing assignments. It helps you to know why certain films alone are appreciated and celebrated by the public. The audience analyses both the ideation and execution part. Even if the script is weak or So-So, and gives a brilliant execution, audiences welcome those movies. But they have never supported a brilliant script with weak or So-So execution.

  • Weak Script     -   10
  • So-So Script    -   25
  • Good Script     -   50
  • Great Script     -   75
  • Brilliant Script - 100
The term 'Script' indicates the Idea, Conversion of the Idea into a viable Story, Placing the Story on a Plot Structure, Using a unique Point of View in the Story Telling Method, Believable Characters, their Ego, and Arc, Screenplay Structure, and Dialogues. The Script Auditor needs to analyze all these criteria to give a rating/score for the script.

  • Weak Execution     -   10
  • So-So Execution    -   25
  • Good Execution     -   50
  • Great Execution     -   75
  • Brilliant Execution - 100

The term 'Execution' refers to the entire Production, Post Production, and Promotional activities. Production includes putting the right people at the right work. This reduces half of the risk at the execution stage. People may accept a Brilliant execution with weak or So-So music/songs. But they will never accept Brilliant music/songs with weak or So-So execution.

Having big names on the list alone will not solve your purpose. Most blockbuster movies have newcomers creating magic in both Script and Execution parts with a medium budget. High-paid actors mostly choose their comfort zone patterns. Hence, their stories are predictable and repeatable in nature. But they execute in a grandeur way to showcase it as a brilliant execution.

Sairat, Ondu Motteya Kathe, Kathal, and Kanthara are some of the best examples of a good script with brilliant execution. The ratings can be analyzed before releasing of the film and after the release of the film.
