Script Submission - What Film Producers Really Want (Part 2)

 In continuation of my previous article -(http://www.saivijendhiran.com/2023/07/what-film-producer-really-wants-tips.html), I would like to add a few more points. I hope this will be of your use.

Just because someone has rejected your film script, it doesn't mean that you don't fit the bill. There are several reasons why film scripts are getting rejected at the producer/production company level. Instead of changing our approach, we blame them for our mistakes. Not all the time, film producers are wrong. Most of the time, we assume/believe rumors spread by our industry colleagues.

 There is the biggest question that every budding director has in their mind. After several pitching and rejection with the production houses, this question makes them sleepless. Their mind tries to crack the puzzle. Even though I haven't pitched a lot of scripts with the producers, I was part of many story discussions and script auditing sessions with the production houses. Every month hundreds of scripts are submitted to the production companies. But only a few get a narration opportunity. I hear people saying that the production houses run based on recommendations. One needs to have the call sheet of big stars. All the story narrations are eyewash.

பெரிய நடிகர்களுக்கான கதை பற்றாக்குறை இருக்கிறதா?

வணிகரீதியில் வெற்றிப்படங்களை தரும் / தர நினைக்கும் நடிகர்கள் அவர்களுடைய கதை தேர்வினை கவனமாக செய்கிறார்கள். முதல் நிலை மற்றும் இரண்டாம் நிலையில் (வணிக ரீதியில் / வசூலில் என்று புரிந்துகொள்ளவேண்டும்} இருக்கும் நடிகர்களுக்கான கதை பற்றாக்குறை இருப்பதாக அவ்வப்போது திரைத்துறையில் பேசிக்கொள்வதுண்டு. வருடத்திற்கு நூறு துணை, இணை இயக்குநரையாவது உருவாக்கிவிடும் நம்முடைய திரைத்துறையில் கதைக்கான பஞ்சம் இருக்கிறதா? இயக்குனரே இங்கே எழுத்தாளராக இருக்கவேண்டும் அல்லது எழுத்தாளர்களுக்கு இயக்கும் திறன் இருக்கவேண்டும் என்கிற மாய விதி வேறு இருக்கிறது.

ஒவ்வொரு தயாரிப்பு நிறுவனத்திற்கும் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான கதைகளை மாதம் தோறும் எழுத்தாளர்கள் அனுப்புகிறார்கள். அதில் பத்து சதவிகிதம் கூடவா பெரிய நடிகர்களுக்கு பொருத்தமாக இருக்காது? தன்னுடைய கதைகளை தயாரிப்பாளரோ அல்லது நடிகர்களோ படித்துவிட்டு வாய்ப்பு தரமாட்டார்களா என்று எங்கும் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான இயக்குனர்கள் ஒரு பக்கம், யாரிடம் எனக்கு ஏற்ற கதை இருக்கிறது என்று காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும் நடிகர்கள் ஒரு பக்கம் என்று இரு துருவங்களாக பிரிந்து இருக்கிறார்கள். இவர்களை இணைப்பது யாருடைய வேலை? இதை நாம் அடுத்து வரும் கட்டுரைகளில் பார்க்கலாம்.

இயக்குனர் ஹெச்.வினோத் எந்த வகை எழுத்தாளர் தெரியுமா?

 எழுத்தாளரில் வகைகளா? என்று நீங்கள் நினைக்கலாம். ஆம், எத்தலர்களில் பல வகைகள் உண்டு. என்னுடைய ஆராய்ச்சி புத்தகமான "டிக்கோடிங் ரைடர்ஸ்" (Decoding Writers) புத்தகத்தில் மூவாயிரத்து முந்நூற்று இருபத்தி ஐந்து வகையான (3325 varieties of writing) எழுதும் வகைகளை குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கிறேன். எழுத்தாளர்களில் ஏன் இதனை வகைகள் என்று நீங்கள் நினைக்கலாம். எல்லா எழுத்தாளர்களும் ஒரே சிந்தனைத்திறனோடு (Thinking Capability) இருப்பதில்லை. அதற்கு அவர்களின் இயல்பான குணாதிசயங்கள், வளரும் சூழ்நிலைகள், பழகும் மக்கள் போன்றவையே காரணம்.

புத்தகம் எழுதுபவர் பயன்படுத்தும் எழுத்து முறை (Methodology) வேறு, இலக்கியங்களில் கலந்துகொள்பவர்கள் பயன்படுத்தும் எழுத்து முறை வேறு. இப்படி விமர்சகர், விரிவுரையாளர், கட்டுரை எழுதுபவர், பத்திரிகை எழுத்தாளர், தொல்பொருள் ஆராய்ச்சி செய்பவர், பாடலாசிரியர் என்று எழுத்தாளர்களின் வேளைக்கு ஏற்ப அவர்கள் அணுகும் எழுத்து முறைகள் வேறுபடுகிறது. தாஜ் மஹாலைப்பற்றி இவர்களை எழுதச்சொன்னால் ஒவ்வொருவருடைய அணுகுமுறையும், எழுத்து தன்மையும் வேறுபடும்.

Story Pattern of Director Murugadoss

     Director Murugadoss is known for his gripping, intensive storytelling methods. But how many of you know he is attracted to one particular story pattern? Yes, like most of the creators, Director Murugadoss too gets connected with a pattern. It is known as "Hide and Seek & One searching for the other." I am not surprised to see his recent outing as a story writer in 'Raangi' starring Trisha in the lead role. His pattern continues even if he is not directing it.  

Ramana - The protagonist does everything against the Antagonist and hides from their eyes. A vigilant police officer goes on the mission of searching for the culprit.  The antagonist will have the question mark of who is doing ill against him. The protagonist lives as another person due to his bad past.

இயக்குனர் விக்ரமன் அவர்களின் பாட்டேர்ன் (Pattern of Director Vikraman)

 பாட்டேர்ன் - Pattern (முறை) என்பது படைப்பாளிகளுக்கு சாதகமா? பாதகமா?. இது முழுவதும் ஆழ் மனதில் இருக்கும் பதிவுகளின் வெளிப்பாடாகவே இருக்கும். படைப்பாளிகளுக்கு இப்படி ஒரு விஷயத்தை அவர்களின் எல்லா படைப்புகளிலும் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார்கள் என்று பல நேரங்களில் தெரியாது. 

உதாரணத்திற்கு இயக்குனர் விக்ரமன் அவர்களின் கதையமைப்பை கூர்ந்து கவனித்தால் இந்த பாட்டேர்ன் இருப்பது தெரியும்.

 பாட்டேர்ன் (Pattern) என்னும் முறை எப்படி எழுத்தாளர்களை தன் கட்டுக்குள் வைத்துக்கொண்டு புதிய வகை சிந்தனையை வரவிடாமல் தடுக்கிறது என்பதை இதற்கு முன் பல கட்டுரையில் நான் எழுதியிருக்கிறேன். பாட்டேர்னை தன் கட்டுக்குள் வைத்திருக்கும் எழுத்தாளர்கள் பெரிய அளவில் பேசப்படுவார்கள். அதற்குள் எழுத்தாளர்கள் வீழ்ந்துவிட்டால் புதர்க்குழி மணல் போல் மூழ்க வேண்டியிருக்கும்.

The pattern is a subconscious activity that rules the action of human beings. When you know your pattern, you can control it. If not, it controls you. The Pattern can be both a boon and a bane for filmmakers. It helps to stand out from other human beings and at the same time, it can be dangerous if repeated again and again. I researched the filmmaking pattern of Director Mani Ratnam and his Story World. I could see a pattern in every genre and movie of him.

 The pattern is a two-way sword. If you understand it well, you can come out of it consciously. If you don't, you are locked inside the bubble. When a pattern takes control of our consciousness, we will be delivering the same subject/characters/plot again and again.
